When white light passes through a prism, a rainbow of colors is produced. This phenomenon occurs because of the prism’s index of refraction varies depending on the wavelength of the light. It's pretty when it happens in school. But when your camera lens does this, it can ruin an image.
Perspective - A Distorted Tale
Put a wide angle lens up to your eye and things look farther away and some objects look distorted. Do the same with a telephoto lens and objects look closer. They seem magnified and objects appear compressed. This phenomenon is called perspective distortion and some folks would say that each lens provides a different perspective. But how’s this for shaking things up?
Perspective is not controlled by the lens.
Battling Camera Shake
When taking any photograph motion can be broken down into two groups. Camera motion and subject motion. Motion itself is not a bad thing. In fact there are many photographers who create some incredibly nice images accentuating motion using both subject and camera motion. But if we want an image really sharp a moving camera - or camera shake - can be an image killer.
