Italy’s Amalfi Coast

We have not been able to firm up a date for this workshop. We’re looking at the late 2022 (September / October) If you’re interested in getting more information when it becomes available, click on the More Info page and let us know.

Few places on earth have inspired artists and writers like Italy’s Amalfi Coast. This stretch of idyllic coastline is a mere 30 miles long but packs some of the most stunning scenery this planet has to offer.

Our home for this adventure will be the coastal town of Sorrento, perched atop seaside cliffs facing the Bay of Naples. Here you stroll the bustling narrow streets of the Old Town and enjoy dinner alfresco on the Piazza Tasso.

What You’ll See

The moment you arrive in Sorrento you’ll experience incredible sights and sounds. Enjoy the aroma of a fresh espresso on the Villa Communale as you watch the sun set over the Bay of Naples.

Old Town

In the heart of Sorrento is Old Town. It feels much like an oxymoron. There’s an abundance of shops selling bobbles and trinkets and plenty of bottles of Limoncello. But you’re stuck with the feel of a charming Italian village with quaint restaurants where you can enjoy a fabulous meal and watch the world go by.

Pompeii

Look back almost 2,000 years into Roman life in the ancient city of Pompeii. The city was frozen in time when nearby Mount Vesuvius erupted and buried the town in 20 feet of volcanic ash and pumice. So much of the town is preserved and is now a showcase of affluent wealth.

You can see political signs that were pained for an upcoming election, visit a local market, and even a bordello. You may have read about Pompeii but most people are surprised by the vastness of the city.

Amalfi Coast

When you hear about the Amalfi Coast, most are referring to a 30 mile stretch of road along the southern side of the Sorrentine Peninsula between Positano and Vietri sul Mare. The town of Amalfi is somewhat in the middle. This is truly one of Italy’s most memorable destinations. The coastal road twists and turns along a dramatic coastline with jagged cliffs and quant villages.

You’ll be lucky to find any vehicle that drives that coastline without damage to the side mirrors. When you try to find a place to park, you’ll also see why we choose to travel in a private car or van.

Ravello

While on the Amalfi Coast, we’ll visit the resort town of Ravello some 1,000 feet above the ocean. This is a perfect spot to stop for leisurely lunch and enjoy strolling through the town and up to the spectacular Villa Cimbrone. This medieval-style estate is perched on a steep outcropping and surrounded by a luscious garden. You may recognize the grounds, they have been the backdrop for many movies.

When we’re done in Ravello, we’ll head back to Sorrento - time and space permitting, we can stop at a roadside vendor.
