I don’t think there is anyone on the planet that has not watched what is unfolding in south Texas and not felt some desire to reach out a hand and help in some way. We feel the same way. On behalf of everyone involved in Corbell Photographic Workshops, we have made an initial donation of $1,000 to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund.

There are many deserving organizations that are involved in providing relief for the victims of Hurricane Harvey. But I have a special connection to the Red Cross and am a big fan of theirs. I got involved in Red Cross disaster relief over 25 years ago when I joined the Dallas Red Cross Disaster Action Team. Over the years I had first-hand experience with hundreds of fires. I’ve worked many floods, a tornado or two and even amajor plane crash. I’ve even served for three years on the Board of Directors of the Dallas Chapter. I can tell you that the one thing that is needed now, more than anything else, is money.

Money can be used to secure the supplies and resources that are needed. It can move through the system and be put to work faster than any other type of donation. In fact, donating clothing or food at this point puts more of a burden on relief efforts. Yes, your help can hurt.

I encourage you to take action today to donate what you can to help these disaster victims. Click on the Red Cross logo to be connected directly to the American Red Cross donation page. You can earmark your donation for Harvey relief but you can also do as we did, mark it for Disaster Relief efforts. Everyone knows about Harvey, and its sheer size makes everyone take notice. But disasters happen every day, all over the country. It could be a fire that leaves families homeless, a storm-spawned tornado that destroys an apartment or localized flooding. I don’t ever want to forget those families too.
